Egbert-Jan Weeber (1981) was born in Groningen and grew up in Haren. Even as a young boy, rather than going to school, he preferred going to the Art Centre (Kunstcentrum) where he could enjoy himself painting, tinkering, acting, and being busy making music.
When he was 14 years old he visited a theatre performance in the Stadsschouwburg Groningen (Groningen City Theatre) performed by students of Vooropleiding Theater (Prior Theatre Education) (De Noorderlingen) (The Northerners) and immediately realized: “This is what I want to do as well.” He joins the theatre company and takes his first steps on stage.
During the time he spent at Theatre school Egbert-Jan Weeber auditioned a couple of times. He’s quickly succesful: in 2000 he gets the main part in the film Uitgesloten (Excluded), directed by Mijke de Jonge. This also brings him his first Gouden Kalf nomination in the category of Best Actor. Three years later, he is once again nominated, this time for his part in the film Van Gos Los (Away from God).
Since then he has played in several films, plays, and tv-series such as Moeder, ik wil bij de Revue (Mother I want to join the Revue).
Besides acting Egbert-Jan Weeber has a passion for sailing and music. He regularly works as a dj at parties and festivals.
